Days 14 & 15: SLC to Home!

I’ve been putting off “finishing” our trip. So many wonderful memories...  But now I can’t remember what we did on Days 14 & 15 (besides drive!). We headed out of SLC with no set-in-stone plan. I think we had both decided we just wanted to get home at that point. So, I just drove until I was tired and then Dave drove until he was tired. We did stop in Cheyenne, WY to take a look at their Capitol. Frankly, they got nothing on Utah. But it was a nice old building and it seemed like you could walk right in and sit down with the Gov’nor - his door was open!

Being the home of Taco John’s (www.tacojohns.com), we had to eat lunch there as well. Just one block from the Capitol - how convenient!

I believe this was the day that I got to watch a couple movies on the laptop while Dave drove. Classics “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” and “Muriel’s Wedding”. That was good for a few hours of R&R.

Stopping at a Ruby Tuesday’s for dinner, Dave decided to book our last LQ with the points we earned thru the trip. The closest one being all the way to Omaha! But, he was confident we would be there in ‘a couple hours’. Well, getting back on the road, we drove right past an LQ! But, having a non-refundable reservation, we pressed on... until nearly 1:30 a.m.

It was a nice room in a questionable area, so luckily we were only there to sleep and then hit the road again - our last day of the trek!

We stopped in Elk Horn, IA where they have a windmill from Denmark (www.danishwindmill.com). (They even advertised kringle at their bakery, tho we didn’t stop there). They also had an impressive Danish-American history museum (www.danishmuseum.org). The town is so small, we imagine that nearly everyone there must have helped out with building it. Well done, Elk Horn!

From there we made it into IL where for the first time in all those days, all those miles, all those states, I had a <tiny> bout of road rage. Seems like everywhere else on the planet they know to drive in the right lane and pass in the left lane... Argh!

And, somewhere along the way, I’m not sure where even - we stopped at one of my favs, Chik-fil-A! It didn’t even matter that it was “family night” and there were 400 screaming children. Even one that tried to climb right into our booth with us - even after I warned them that Dave did, in fact, bite. But, with an original chicken sandwich, waffle fries (with my special mayo/ketchup dipping sauce) and tasty lemonade, nothing could be better. Unless, of course, one of the Cows were there - which they were! Oh, it’s the smallest things sometimes, isn’t it?

Back in Wisconsin we were, late on a Thursday. After unpacking a circus clown amount of baggage, I dropped Dave off with “I’ll see you soon...but not too soon!” And, he agreed “See you on the 13th!”

So, with that I end this blog but I’m not sure if I continue with upcoming trips or start a whole new travel blog for each one? Stay tuned viewers!
