What happens in Vega$, stays in Vega$ so there is no pictorial evidence. Sorry. However, I forgot to mention Willie Wonka Moment #2: The elevator in the Luxor. Pretty sure it goes sideways. Or maybe frontways...or anyways you want it to go.
We headed out early (again). Was going to be a long, driving day. We stopped for breakfast around the NV/CA border. One exit, two casinos and an outlet mall. Which, was kinda lucky because for the first time ever I somehow managed to underpack! Yes, I had so much room in my suitcase, I let Dave put stuff from his overweight suitcase in mine - not sure what he's going to do on the way home!
Due to a slight misinterpretation of directionals, we ended up driving through the Mojave Desert. COOL. But not cool, it got up to 106.
It was pretty desolate, as you can imagine, but so desolate they named every place that had more than one building in one place. There seemed to be more abandoned buildings than occupied. Though I don’t blame them, I really can’t see wanting to live out there. No wonder these folks see aliens, no one else is around.
Our stopping point for the day was Joshua Tree National Park, which I guess a lot of people have not heard of but is pretty spectacular. Weird rock formations, which I actually think may be prehistoric dinosaur poop - Dave kept a look-out for Fred & Wilma because he swore we were Bedrock. We got out of the car a few times to climb around rocks and to view the San Andreas Fault but due to the high temperatures, Dave's sunburn and my fear of snakes, bugs and pretty much all of nature, we didn’t do too much hiking.
After that, we hit the road, arrived in LA (after some more slight directional detours...) and took the night to relax and catch up on laundry. Dave took a dip in the swimming pool and met a Oregonian that gave him some tips for Portland.
Good times!
