Day 5: MT-ID-WA

The Trip Nazi has relaxed our early morning start times. So, we have had leisurely mornings with free breakfasts at the LaQuintas. So, off we went towards our next stop of Spokane. Not much in between Belgrade, MT and there but we did make a stop near the Continental Divide at a town called Butte (like beaut-iful). It is a small-ish town surrounded by the mountains nicknamed the Richest Hill on Earth because (I think) of it’s mining industry. There was actually a lovely memorial to the Granite Ridge Shaft Fire overlooking the town. It was very touching, they had letters a couple of the men wrote while they were stuck in the mine, recovered after they died. And a recording of the oldest survivor. Butte was also Evel Knievel’s home town. After poking in a couple shops, we moved on.

We stopped again in Missoula, MT for a quick lunch at McD’s. It’s a big college town-who knew? In addition to being home to the brewer of Moose Drool (yum), John Elway and former Milwaukee Bucks coach Larry Krystowiak lived here. Dana Carvey and Carroll O’Connor went to school here.

Pressing on... We reached Coeur d’Alene, ID. I had to twist Dave’s arm, but we arrived just in time to go on a boat ride around the lake. Nearly a private cruise, with just us and one couple! It was lovely - perfect day, a few Moose Drools - I could have been on Lake Geneva, it is so similar. Nice, big houses, little shops, etc.

It’s amazing what you can fit into a day! Spokane was just another 20-30 minutes and after finding and checking into our next LaQuinta, we had time to drive downtown and get a bite to eat. We found a cute little restaurant and I had the most delicious vegetarian meal ever! Since it was a Monday, there was not much else going on, so we headed back...
